Mailing List Deduplicator and Syntax Verification
Cool Tool : March 2003
Have you been maintaining your mailing list manually?
How much time do you waste making sure the subscriber you are
about to add isn't a duplicate?
... or dealing with that person's complaint later because they forgot they
subscribed twice?
How many tries does it take your mail program to actually send your mailing
because it keeps reporting badly formatted addresses that you must correct
first?
Outlook, for one will choke on even ONE bad address!
... how easy is it to miss the Shift key and type a 2 instead of @ sign?
Of course, the easiest is to move to an automated mailing
list system
that takes care of adding subscribers for you. Many hosts, as we do,
offer a mailing list feature in some of their hosting packages.
This tool will catch your mistakes if you must continue
manually, or clean up your list in preparation to move to an automated system.
It will weed out duplicate email addresses, remove and report bad email addresses back to you, and
sort the remaining good email addresses.
Use it HERE
This tool is built into the mailing list
software offered in our hosting plans.
We also offer a mailing-list only
package.
Using the Cleanlist Utility
Our clients: If you have a package that includes the
mailing list software, you may access this tool for your existing lists thru
your control center's 'Email and Mail Lists' icon. Click the link into the
mailing list you want to clean. This will open its list manager where you will choose the 'Clean
Addresses' button.
n.b. This is most useful if you bulk-add addresses thru the raw files. For
addresses added via your list's admin interface or subscribed automatically (via
email request or subscriber form), those addresses are already checked for duplication and proper email address syntax as you go
along.
Non clients: Use this tool right HERE to remove duplicates and
wrongly formatted email addresses. It is compatible for use with mailing lists
in either comma-separated or one per line formats. It will also handle entries
in which the email address is followed by comments within parentheses, as is
allowed with Smartlist mailing lists.
n.b. This public version has a limit of a few hundred addresses at a time.
